नाभ्यस्ता प्रतिवादिवृन्ददमनी विद्या विनीतोचिता
खड्गाग्रैः करिकुम्भपीठदलनैर्नाकं न नीतं यशः ।
कान्ताकोमलपल्लवाधररसः पीतो न चन्द्रोदये
तारुण्यं गतमेव निष्फलमहो शून्यालये दीपवत् ॥

१. विद्या knowledge, learning
अभ्यस्त॰ — [अभि + अस् learn, practice] + क्त (past passive participle)
विनीत॰ — [वि + नी educate, train] + क्त (past passive participle),
उचित॰ — suitable (विनीतोचित इति षष्ठीतत्पुरुषः)
प्रतिवादि-वृन्द-दमनी
प्रतिवादिन् — [प्रति + वद् dispute, argue] + णिनि (agent suffix)
तेषां वृन्दम् — crowd, mass
तेषां दमन॰ — [दम् subdue, conquer] + अन (instrument suffix)


२. यशः n. fame
नीतम् — [नी lead] + क्त (past passive participle)
नाकः — the sky
खड्गाग्रैः — [खड्गानाम् m. swords + अग्रैः n. tips]
करि-कुम्भ-पीठ-दलनैः
करिणां m. elephants + कुंभानां m. temples + पीठानि n. places
तेषां दलन॰ — [दल् split] + अन (instrument suffix)


३. कान्ताकोमलपल्लवाधररसः
पल्लवः — bud, अधरः — lip, lit. "lower" lip (पल्लव इव अधर इति पल्लवाधर इति उपमासमासः)
कोमल॰ — soft (कोमल च पल्लवाधरः चासाविति कर्मधारयः)
कान्ता — beloved (कान्तानां कोमलपल्लवाधर इति षष्ठीतत्परुषः)
तस्य रसः — taste, savor
पीत॰ — [पा drink] + क्त (past passive participle)
चन्द्रोदयः — चन्द्रस्य m. moon + उदयः m. rising

तारुण्यम् — तरुणः young man + य (abstract suffix)
गत॰ — [गम् go] + क्त (past passive participle)
निष्फल॰ — निर्गतं फलं यस्य स इति प्रादि-बहुव्रीहिः
