Anthologia Palatina 5.6 (Callimachus)

Ὤμοσε Καλλίγνωτος Ἰωνίδι μήποτ’ ἐκείνης
ἕξειν μήτε κρέσσονα μήτε φίλην.
ὤμοσεν· ἀλλὰ λέγουσιν ἀληθέα τοὺς ἐν ἔρωτι
ὅρκους μὴ δύνειν οὔατ’ ἐς ἀθανάτων.
νῦν δ’ ὁ μὲν ἀρσενικῶι θέρεται πυρί, τῆς δὲ ταλαίνης
νύμφης, ὡς Μεγαρέων, οὐ λόγος οὐδ’ ἀριθμός.

anyone dearer than her, boy or girl.
He did swear, but what they say is true: oaths in love
