Subhāṣitaratnakoṣa 728 (22.29)

आदृष्टिप्रसरात् प्रियस्य पदवीमुद्वीक्ष्य निर्विण्णया
विश्रान्तेषु पथिष्वहःपरिणतौ ध्वान्ते समुत्सर्पति ।
दत्त्वैकं ससुधागृहं प्रति पदं पान्थस्त्रियास्मिन् क्षणे
मा भूद् आगत इत्यमन्दवलितोद्ग्रीवं पुनर्वीक्षितम् ।। (सिद्धोकस्य)

śārdūlavikrīḍitam

As darkness crept over the late evening sky,
the traveler's wife gazed sadly
along the desolate roads,
looking for her lover
as far as the eye could see.
She takes one step toward
her whitewashed house
and in that moment, thinking
"god forbid he should come now--"
she turns her head and quickly looks again.
