Subhāṣitāvalī 3181

शीतेनोद्धृषितस्य माषशिमिवच्चिन्तार्णवे मज्जतः
शान्ताग्निं स्फुटिताधरस्य धमतः क्षुत्क्षामकण्ठस्य मे ।
निद्रा क्वाप्यवमानितेव दयिता संत्यज्य दूरं गता
सत्पात्रप्रतिपादितेव वसुधा न क्षीयते शर्वरी ।। (मातृगुप्तस्य)

śārdūlavikrīḍitā

shivering with cold like a shriveled bean,
    drowning in waves of worry,
    my throat wasting away with hunger,
I try to kindle a doused fire
    with my cracked lips.
sleep ran off somewhere far away,
    abandoned me like a jilted lover,
and like prosperity in the right hands,
    the night just keeps on growing.
